Scottie Scheffler converted his eighth consecutive solo 54-hole lead to win the PGA Championship by five (69-68-65-71). The win marks Scheffler’s third major championship, 15th career PGA TOUR title and 11th worldwide win since the start of 2024.
Off the heels of an epic Saturday 65 that featured a four-under 32 on the back nine, Scheffler followed it up with a 34 on the back on Sunday to secure the win.
Scottie was tied for the lead on the 10th tee box before making a 9-footer for birdie on 10 and a 7-footer for birdie on 14 with his Spider Tour X L-Neck putter to extend the lead to two. With a tap-in birdie on 15 and pars on 16 and 17, Scheffler’s lead extended to six as headed to the final hole.
He now joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the third player to win The Masters, the PGA Championship and multiple PLAYERS Championships. Scottie also joins those two names as the third player to win 15 PGA TOUR titles before turning 29.
Remarkably, Scottie has the same amount of major championships as he does missed cuts since Jan. 1 2022. The five-stroke victory makes Scottie the first player since 1983 to win by three-strokes or more in each of their first three major titles.
SCOTTIE CONQUERS CHARLOTTE WITH Qi35 7-WOOD
Prior to the start of the tournament, Scottie elected to replace his 3-iron with a Qi35 7-wood. His 7-wood launches about 1.5-2 degrees higher than his three-iron with about 1500 more RPM of spin. The goal was to produce a 240-carry number more consistently than he normally does with his 3-iron. Scottie’s self-dubbed “high one” launched at 14.9° at 5175 RPM carrying 245-yards at 160 MPH ball speed.
TaylorMade Senior Tour Manager,Adrian Rietveld made the 7-wood more upright than it was when Scottie played it at Torrey Pines to get the club to sit squarer at address. The spec of his 7-wood is built closer to a 5-wood spec to properly gap with his 3-wood.
“We fit his 3-wood shorter, so it did not go further than his desired distance with that club, so when you fit a standard 5-wood it goes too far,” said Rietveld. “You don’t want to add loft to a 5-wood because it closes the face, so we built a 5-wood spec in a 7-wood head. It has the dynamics of a 5-wood but with the spin and launch conditions of a 7-wood to produce the carry number he wants with that club.”
